About the Fund

NASCA renamed its annual membership fund in 2020 to honor the association’s first executive director. The Roland Geddes Fund is used like a scholarship to assist state conservation agency staff who seek professional development or improve their agency’s operations; the fund is also used to advance NASCA’s mission.

About Roland Geddes

Roland Geddes of Virginia served as NASCA’s first Executive Director. He, along with several other state conservation agency leaders, decided to formalize NASCA as a nonprofit organization. A World War II navy veteran, Geddes graduated from NC State University and started a career at Virginia Forestry before transitioning to Director of Division of Soil & Water Conservation where he led Virginia’s efforts in Chesapeake Bay Restoration.
