Seeking other states with summer programs for high school students

I came to the NASCA annual meeting two years ago and presented on our state’s Natural Resources Conservation Workshop. I’m working on a project idea and I wanted to see if there are other states (and contacts) that have similar summer workshop programs for high school students.

I'm not quite sure what you may be looking for in a workshop, our partnership (state and association, along with extension and NRCS) host a week long overnight camp annually. It's a huge success for several reasons (1) subject matter experts teach courses on wildlife, soil science, water, forestry, etc. (2) it's AFFORDABLE and almost 100% of the attendees go for free (conservation districts often provide 'scholarships' and pay the fee for campers) (3) while the association definitely now does the majority of legal/licensing/etc. work (being a nonprofit helps) - the partnership truly supports and many staff from NRCS and our state agency either lead learning courses, act as chaperones or help out in other various capacities.

I'd be very interested in learning more about your workshops and see what other states provide high schoolers during the summer with?

Kansas Grazing Lands host a Range Youth Camp.  Conservation Districts recruit youth, and offer scholarships, similar to Colorado, most go for free.

Ours is exactly the same as yours! Week long stay at ABAC (college) so they get the college life experience. All courses taught by staff from our states natural resource agencies. I want to get together with other leads from other state workshops and bounce around ideas. 🙂 I’m working to get approved to attend nasca again this year.
