I’m thinking that most people with free-range birds have less than the 2000 that would equate to the 8 animal units…
Virginia has a Nutrient Management Certification Program for NM Planners.
In Virginia, the approach to writing a plan for this operation would not be any different than any other animal operation. We would treat the area the chickens “graze” as pasture. If any manure is collected and spread on fields, I would get a manure analysis of the material and apply it based on soil test recommendations. Any other nutrient needs shown by soil tests would be met with fertilizer or other organic nutrient sources.
