Our Department of Conservation & Recreation, Department of Forestry, Department of Environmental Quality and others all serve as resources for Envirothon when we need it. Many times individuals have assisted with test writing, served as a station judge, oral presentation judge or otherwise. Our state agencies do not offer financial support to our Envirothon program. Our program is supported primarily by Dominion Virginia Power and our program is named accordingly the Dominion Envirothon. We'd be happy to discuss our Envirothon program if you have questions. Our program has grown exponentially in recent years and we are thrilled with the interest.

In Kentucky, our state agency provides staff to organize the program. Also, other state agencies assist such as Kentucky Division of Water, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Kentucky Division of Forestry. Basically, our sponsors are just the funding source and we put together the program.

The NYS Conservation Committee provided staff assistance for the envirothon program focusing on the State level competition. Historically we have also provided sponsorship funds of up to $1000, however this practice ended in 2006. We have requested consideration for this years appropriation hoping to renew our financial committeemen to the event.

I am a staff member for the Colorado State Conservation Board (CSCB) and serve on the Colorado Envirothon Planning Committee. Our state's Envirothon program is only two years old and was initiated by an individual conservation district with sponsorship from the Colorado Association of Conservation Districts. CSCB approved my involvement with Envirothon to promote natural resource management education for Colorado teens in support of the state's conservation districts in their youth outreach efforts.

My role on the committee is to provide guidance in contest protocol and providing quality control for the topic area specialists as they develop the written and hands-on tests as well as the current issues presentation planning. During the contest, I review test scoring to insure consistency and accuracy as well as final score tabulations.

I'm currently working with the state Envirothon committee to facilitate a strategic planning session to expand the youth groups participating in this program and to develop a fund-raising and partnership-building plan.

The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation provides both technical and financial assistance to the Montana Envirothon. We receive $25,000 a year from the legislature, which is contracted through the Fergus Conservation District to pay for coordination services, hosting expenses, and for scholarships. DNRC also serves on the steering committee which helps plan and organize the event.

Yes, in Massachusetts the Envirothon Committee (EC) is a sub-committee of the State Commission. To assist the EC this year, the commission formed an Envirothon Council to do fund raising. It is modeled somewhat like what is being done on the North American level. The Envirothon Council is charged with fund raising and bringing in partners to support the EC. This enables the EC to focus on doing a great program and event.
