The WVCA is updating its education/outreach specialist job description and is interested in what other agencies use. We are particularly interested in job duties and education requirements.

Hi Brian - is this position mainly for K12/adult education and partner/community outreach, or does it also include strategic communications/marketing?

Gotcha... Here are some general duties and qualifications pulled from both the WA Conservation Commission's Communication Manager position and a project/contract position we fund for K12/environmental education work:

Duties:
- Develop, implement, and adaptively manage agency strategic communication plan.
- Serve as lead consultant for agency internal and external strategic messaging.
- Manage media relations, including writing/distributing media releases and prepping agency staff for interviews
- Manage agency web and social media content
- Facilitate regular meeting with conservation districts to assess/prioritize shared marketing needs; develop/maintain "toolkit" of shared resources and templates for district use.
- Publish annual report, budget informational materials, and program/issue fact sheets to promote voluntary conservation needs and accomplishments.
- Strengthen and maintain relationships with K12 education leaders and stakeholders; represent conservation districts/Conservation Commission at state-level K12 meetings/events.
- Facilitate regular meetings with conservation district educators to assess/prioritize shared education needs; share resources and program/curriculum models.

Desired education requirements:
For Communications Manager: Bachelor's degree involving major study in journalism, communications, public relations, or closely allied field and four years of professional experience in information, journalism or public relations.

For Community Outreach/Environmental Education Specialist: Bachelor’s degree involving major study in environmental, physical, or natural science, education, communications or related field and three years of professional experience involving environmental analysis or control, environmental planning, environmental education, community outreach, or communications activities; or equivalent education/experience.
